Sharing Stories, Sharing Spices

Queen Street Riches and Textures is an annual project that explores the social interaction and conversations between community, people and places. The project builds and extends on existing partnerships with civic, community, cultural, art and educational organisations and groups. Sharing Stories, Sharing Spices project is produced in partnership with Nepean Multicultural Access.

The project engaged digital artists Marty Walker and Peter Long to capture, through sound and image, the experience of cooking and presenting a distinctive dish or spice as a medium through which we can learn more about each other’s cultures. Through collaboration and with the mentorship and support provided by Penrith City Council’s Cultural Development staff, the team of two artists created unique and multilayered multimedia videos celebrating and embracing the cultures of six individuals.

The project’s six participants and their communities were invited to share a distinctive dish and their chosen spice to be documented by the project’s artists.”
